CNS Title

Challenge

When Andcor first met CNS (NASDAQ:CNSX) in 1993, CNS was a stagnant medical diagnostic equipment manufacturer with a 12-year history of operating losses. CNS engaged Andcor to conduct a search for a world-class medical device expert, but it quickly became apparent that CNS could not attract such an expert.

Solution

Andcor was retained to work with the Chairman of the board to refocus the search for a leader to turn the company around and reposition CNS as an over-the-counter, consumer product company. In 1993, Andcor placed Rick Jahnke as the President, COO and Director of CNS. Mr. Jahnke launched Breathe Rite nasal strips, which became an overnight success ($0-$60 million within four years). In 1998, CNS needed another push, and Andcor performed the search that resulted in the placement of Marti Morfitt, who was later named CEO in 2001 and continued to grow the company until its sale in 2006. Over the course of 11 years, Andcor placed 17 key hires for CNS, including two Directors of the Board in 2004.

Result

These hires helped CNS attract future talent and capital as they launched multiple household brands and became one of Minnesota's marquee business success stories. This key talent was at the core of CNS's success, and helped skyrocket the company from $5.00 per share to $37.50 per share when it was acquired by GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK) in 2006.
